5 Inauspicious Things to Avoid GIFTING this Diwali!
Diwali, the most prominent festivals celebrated in India, celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, of good over evil. The festival of lights is observed on the day of ‘Amavasya’, the 15th of every Krishna Paksha.
The occasion is marked by worship of Devi Lakshmi, Eating special sweets, burning of incense sticks, lighting the home and surroundings and the blowing of the conch shell follows the prayer session in the Lakshmi temple. The festival falls in the months of October-November.
During this festival, markets are buzzing and everyone is busy gifting each other. However, on the day of Diwali, especially on Laxmi Poojan, Avoid gifting these items as they are inauspicious:
1. Anything in BLACK:
The colour black is advised to be avoided. It is said, that it is the colour that drains Lakshmi and hence avoid any items such as clothing or accessories in Black colour.
2. Laxmi and Ganpati Idols:
Do not gift Laxmi and Ganpati Idols to anyone on Diwali, it is said the incoming Lakshmi is redirected from the Giver to the receiver, and spells doom for the gift giver.
3. Anything that is made of Steel and Iron:
Pots and Pans sell in bonanza deals during Diwali, but skip the Diwali day to gift these as they are said to be inauspicious for the receiver of the gift.
4. Anything Wood based or Oil based:
A person should avoid oil or wooden based gifts for his or her home and never gift to anyone else either during Diwali as it is said to bring on bad luck.
5. Anything that is Old or Used:
Do not gift anyone a used or old item on Diwali, especially things like cooking utensils, sarees, or any used silver items. Also, jewellery which is Old, avoid gifting it even if it is Gold. It is said to drive away Lakshmi from the Gift giver's home.
Diwali, is an occasion to spend time with loved ones and give gifts which actually matter, like your time, spend holidays and share food, so have a great diwali and remember the Gifts to be avoided.
