6,000 rail stations to be equipped with wi-fi in 2-3 months, says Piyush Goyal
New Delhi, Oct 4:
Around 6,000 railway stations across the country will be equipped with Wi-Fi over the next two to three months as part of the government’s plan to connect people in the far-fetched areas of India, said Railway minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday.
“More than 5,000 stations have Wi-Fi facility. In the next two to three months, 6,500 stations will have Wi-Fi connectivity and with that the economically weak, children and women will be connected with the rest of the world,” said Goyal.
Goyal, who is also the trade and commerce minister, said the Indian Railways is installing CCTV cameras at railway stations to create a safe environment for passengers.
“The way Prime Minister Narendra Modi has envisaged, train stations should become a hub of economic activity,” Goyal said as he, along with home minister Amit Shah flagged off the second Vande Bharat Express from New Delhi to Katra.
