In the sixth day of Navaratra, Devi Durga appeared as "Katyayani". This day, she was born in the home of Rishi Katyayan. So, as per his name, Devi is called Katyayani. Devi Kanya kumari, situated in southern most of India, is called the avatar of Devi Katyayani.

Body of Mother Katyayani is golden in color. She is sitting on the Lion. She has four hands. In one hand, she has a sword. In second hand, she is holding Lotus flower.
