The Highest Rail Bridge in the World: The Chenab Bridge
The Chenab Rail Bridge which is located over the Chenab river in the state of Jammu and Kashmir is under construction and will soon be unveiled as the tallest bridge in the world. The bridge is being built at a height of 359mts above the river making it even taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Scientists have come up with new techniques to cope with the high and difficult Terrain. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.

  • The Chenab Rail link is said to be the most expensive stretch out of the entire rail line of India which accounts to be 66000km.
  • The bridge is designed in such a way that it can withstand a Zone V earthquake, which is the highest zone in India.
  • It will be made sure that the bridge can withstand any major blast in case of terrorist activity. Concrete pillars have been installed with the help of consultants from Finland and Germany keeping safety and security their primary objective.
  • Wind sensors are to be installed to track the speed of the wind and once it exceeds 90kmph no train moments will be allowed.
  • As the place will be a major tourist attraction, Bungee jumping and other activities will be present to boost tourism in the area.

The Chenab Bridge will form an important link between Jammu, Srinagar, and Baramulla rail line. The project has generated employment for about 5000 workers.
