The high octane action drama, War,starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff released on October 2. There were two other films that coincided with Gandhi Jayanti – Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and Joker.However, it was Siddharth Anand directorial War that has emerged as a winner at the box office. The opening day collection of this film has broken records set by Salman Khan’s Bharat, Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal, and two other movies that released this year.
Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff’s action flick raked in a massive total of Rs 53.35 crore on day one. It is not only the highest opening film for the lead actors, but it is also the highest Hindi film opener and also the highest collection of a film that has happened on a national holiday. War released in 4,000 screens (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu) in India and in abroad it released in 1,350 screens. Talking about the film’s collection trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#War creates H-I-S-T-O-R-Y... Sets new benchmarks for #Hindi films... Big holiday [#GandhiJayanti] + unprecedented hype results in mind boggling *Day 1* total... Crosses the previous best - #ThugsOfHindostan - by a margin, despite lower screen count.”
War has broken the records of four films that released in 2019 – Salman Khan’s Bharat, Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal, Prabhas’ Saaho and Varun Dhawan starrer Kalank. The opening day collection of Bharat was Rs 42.30 crore, Mission Mangal collected Rs 29.16 crore on the opening day, Saaho(Hindi) minted Rs 24.40 crore and Kalank earned Rs 21.60 crore on the day of its release.
