The ever-ethereal Bollywood diva, Rekha turns 65 this year. Well, a hard to believe truth given that she doesn’t look a day over 45. She is one of the few actresses who are celebrated for their fine performances on screen but have had a series of unsuccessful relationships at the personal box office. That being said, she is also among the rarest, who overcomes everything, pick up their life with grace and carry on with a smile.

1. The Mystery Behind Sindoor
It was not until 1980, that the people spotted Rekha sporting sindoor (red vermillion applied by Hindu married women). At Rishi Kapoor and Neetu’s wedding, Rekha took everyone by storm when she arrived at the ceremony donning a sindoor. This was also the time when her relationship rumours with her co-star were doing the rounds.
Needless to say, people present at the wedding were quick to link her sindoor stint with a secret wedding to Amitabh Bachchan.
2. Amitabh And Rekha- Rumour Or Well-Kept Secret?

Big B’s and Rekha’s was the romance that lit the screen with fire and well, Bachchan’s home was pretty close to getting burned too! It was alleged that when Amitabh was critically injured after an accident at the set of Coolie, Rekha came to visit him. She was but not allowed to see him by Amitabh’s wife, Jaya. The two ladies have shared cold vibes for the obvious reasons.

Their love triangle was what formed the plot of the film Silsila by Yash Raj. According to the filmmaker himself, it was an impossible task to bring the three actors together on screen. That was the last time when Amitabh had worked with Rekha. While he remained tight-lipped about the alleged affair, Rekha unabashedly accepted her love for him on a chat show.
3. Short-Lived Marriage With Mukesh Agarwal
Rekha’s unreciprocated love for Amitabh Bachchan made her decide to settle for good. In 1990, she tied the knot in a closed ceremony with Delhi-based Businessman, Mukesh Agarwal. However, her marriage was sadly cut short with Mukesh’s untimely demise.

Just seven months after their marriage, Mukesh committed suicide, which made the people hate and shame Rekha, and she got tagged as a “cold-hearted man-eater” by the media.
Little did people know that chronic depression ran in Mukesh’s family, but the media found a perfect scapegoat in Rekha.
4. Rekha And Akshay Kumar

Everyone knew that Akshay had a playboy image back in the days. He had been involved in numerous affairs, especially with his co-stars. But, the news of Akshay and Rekha dating left everyone surprised.

They both starred in Khiladiyon ka Khiladi, where they even romanced in a creepily bold song. Their alleged affair was also confirmed by Kumar’s then-girlfriend, Raveena, who went on air, claiming that she caught them red-handed.
5. Rough Fight With Vinod Mehra’s Mother
In Rekha’s biography, The Untold Story, an incident is mentioned, which confirmed her link-up with another actor at the time, Vinod Mehra. It is said that Rekha and Vinod secretly married and he took her to meet his mother. However, Vinod’s mother was totally distraught with their marriage as she didn’t like Rekha.

Rumoured or not but Vinod’s mother was so furious that she almost beat the actress with her sandal. This incident left Rekha completely shattered and both left the spot. It was believed that the two then stayed at a different residence but never made their marriage public. Vinod later went on and married someone else while Rekha married Mukesh Agarwal.
