How Did Valmiki Write The Indian Epic Ramayana?
There’s an interesting story of why and how Valmiki wrote the Indian epic, Ramayana. In spite of taking birth in a brahmin family, he fell prey to a bad company. That is how he inculcated bad traits like dacoity.
Once a sage passed by him and he advised him to do good and leave all the evil deeds that he performed. The words of sage echoed in his mind and he decided to leave dacoity and turn into a good human being.
Then known as, Ratnakar, went home and confessed to his and wife and children about his decision. He told them that he was involved in such activity only for them. He asked them “Would you share the sins I have committed?” all of them denied. This incident moved Ratnatakar and he left his home.

He resorted to penance. A huge anthill covered him in course of time, giving him the name Valmiki. He constantly chanted “Sri Rama”, which brought him to peace. After a long penance and benevolence, his hard work resulted in a nobleman. His life is hermitage made him a great scholar.
Once Valmiki was taking a stroll amidst a forest where he found a beautiful couple of birds singing together. The view was massacred by a hunter as he shot one of the partners. Death of his partner caused the other partner to suffer a great loss. Valmiki was agitated at the sight and he cursed the hunter. The curse took a form of a Sanskrit Shloka. But he, later on, regretted cursing him.

After this incident, Lord Brahma appeared in front of him and told him that the act was a divinely inspired by him as he was destined to compose the great epic, Ramayana. The curse spelled by Valmiki on seeing the forest sight became the first verse of the epic.

When Lord Rama sent his beloved wife Sita to the forest for exile, Valmiki gave his hermitage to Sita for her shelter. Luv and Kush took birth in Valmiki’s hermitage.
