Chhath Puja and some Interesting Facts about the Festival!
Chhath is an ancient vedic festival which is dedicated to Hindu Sun God, where a Puja is performed to thank the Surya God from sustaining life on mother earth, promoting to the well being of human beings and request it to grant them their wishes.

  • The festival is observed for four days and the rituals include fasting and abstaining from drinking water, holy bathing and standing in water for a long period of time.
  • Chhath Puja is also performed during the summer season just days after Holi. The event is called Chaiti Chhath but is not as famous as the one in winter as the former is a festive season in most parts of India.
  • This festival is also celebrated for the new harvest season, and food is prepared from the latest harvest.

  • It is believed that Chhath was started by Surya Putra Karna, also know as the son of Surya. Karna was a great warrior and fought many essential battles in the Mahabharat age.
  • Chhath Puja is one of the oldest known festival to man that is still celebrated in India.
  • The festival demans you to be extremely pure and clean during the period and stay separated from the main family for four days.
  • Many varieties of sweets are offered to lot Surya which is kept in a tokari made out of bamboo. These sweets are also distributed as prasads among those who are gathered.

It is compulsory to perform the Chhath Puja every year once the family starts it and they have to make sure they pass it to the future generations.
