From wheelchair to the greatest drag-flicker of his time... the inspirational story of Sandeep Sing Bhinder

A young boy from Haryana made the international debut of his hockey career in  January 2004 in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Kuala Lumpur. After a lot of hard work and determination, Sandeep was selected in the national hockey team of India which was going for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. With a great future waiting for him, Sandeep left home to join the Indian National Team.

On his way to join the national team which was due to leave for World Cup two days later, Sandeep was hit by an accidental gunshot on 22 August 2006. He almost became paralyzed which lead him to spend the next two years on a wheelchair.
But men like Sandeep never gives up. After being recovered from his injury, Sandeep started to work even harder for his dreams and this time he was not just only selected for the national team but also became the captain of Indian National hockey team in 2009. Under his captaincy, India won the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup after 13 years by defeating the host team Malaysia in the finals, and guess who was the top goal scorer of the tournament ?? Yes, it was our hero Sandeep Sing Bhinder.

After a long gap of 8 years, India also qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Sing was the highest scorer of the Olympic qualifiers tournaments with 16 goals.  Sing also became the best drag-flicker of his time with an amazing speed of 145 km/hr. He became famous in the media by the name of ‘Flicker-Sing’.
