Would you believe me, if I said, that I can sell the iconic Taj mahal to you? This might sound a bit insane to you but this man did the unthinkable ages ago.
A man, so clever that he fooled people into buying the Taj Mahal not once but three times. Today we bring forward India’s biggest fraudster and we’re sure you might’ve heard his name, Natwarlal. The same Natwarlal you saw on the big screens portrayed by Amitabh Bachan in Mr. Natwarlal and by Emraan Hashmi in Raja Natwarlal.
Who was Natwarlal?
Natwarlal’s real name was Mithilesh Kumar Shrivatsav who was from the Siwan district of Bihar. You might be shocked to hear that he was an Advocate by profession. With over 50 fake names he went on to fool people that he is still known for it today. From the Tata’s to the Mittal’s and Ambani’s, they all have fallen prey to the notorious Natwarlal. Dressed as a government official he fooled many foreigners by making them a promise to sell Indian monuments. He tricked big businessmen into believing that he is a social worker and ran away with their money.
How many names did he have?
He got all his fraud ideas from a novel that he used to read. It is to be believed that Natwarlal had about 52 names in total. Before all the frauds related to historical monuments, he was well known for depicting duplicate signatures. With this talent, he thought he could do well in life. You might find it hard to believe but he has sold the Taj mahal 3 times, the Red Fort 2 times, the Rashtrapati Bhavan once and the Parliament house once. He forged the signature of the President Rajendra Prasad and sold the Parliament house.
He was sentenced to 113 years in Jail
He was arrested for a total of 9 times but he somehow managed to trick the policemen and ran away. He was arrested for 14 fraud cases and sentenced for a total of 113 years. He only spent 20 of those years in jail. He was of 84 years when he was last arrested. It is commendable that even at the age of 84 someone managed to run away from jail. This was the last time that he ran away and was never to be seen again.
Fraud Natwarlal would believe that he was the Robin Hood of India and he had no shame in admitting that he is a fraudster.
There is still no proof of this
Natwarlal’s lawyer submitted files saying that he died on 25th 2009 which was contradictory to his brother’s statement saying that he died in the year, 1996. There is no proof that Natwarlal has actually died or not but it is for sure that India will never have a conman like Natwarlal.
