From 21 to 30 October 1990, hundreds of millions of karsewaks had gathered in Ayodhya. All were preparing to go to the disputed site. There was heavy security around the disputed site. In the midst of curfew in Ayodhya, at around 10 am, karsewaks started rising towards Controversial Babri Masjid from all four directions.

That was led by leaders like Ashok Singhal, Uma Bharti, Vinay Katiyar. Around 30,000 PAC personnel were deployed around the disputed site and in Ayodhya city. On the same day, brothers named Sharad (20 years) and Ramkumar Kothari (23 years) hoisted the saffron flag on the dome of Babri Masjid.

Sadhus-saints and karsewaks overcame the security forces' bus in which police had kept the karsewaks in custody and released outside the city. These buses were parked near the Hanuman Garhi temple. Meanwhile, a monk pushed the bus driver down. After this, he himself sat on the steering of the bus. Breaking the barricading, the bus moved quickly towards the disputed campus. More than 5000 thousand karsewaks reached the disputed site when barricading broke the way.

Muslim Supporter Mulayam Singh Yadav was the Chief Minister of UP at that time. His clear instruction was that the mosque should not be harmed. The police was first given clear instructions that only tear gas shells be released to disperse people. There, the Kothari brothers hoisted the saffron flag. After this, the police opened fire on the karsewaks. According to official figures, on October 30, 1990, 5 karsewaks were killed in the firing in Ayodhya. The CRPF jawans beat both the Kothari brothers and drove them away.
Kothari brothers reach Ayodhya by walking 200 km

After this, the road from here was also closed. But both of them started walking towards Ayodhya on 25 October. On October 30, both of them reached Ayodhya after walking about 200 kilometers. Sharad Kothari was the first man to climb the dome on 30 October. Then his brother Ramkumar also climbed. Both of them hoisted the saffron flag there.
Both brothers were shot on November 2, died

According to the book 'Eyewitness of Ayodhya' on October 30, Sharad and Ramkumar were heading towards Hanumangarhi from Digambar Akhara under the leadership of Vinay Katiyar on November 2. When the police opened fire, the two retreated and hid in a house in Lal Kothi street. But after some time when both of them came out, they became victims of police firing. Both died on the spot.
Thousands gathered at the funeral on November 4

On 4 November 1990, Sharad and Ramkumar Kothari were cremated at the ghats of Saryu. Thousands of people gathered at his funeral. The slogans of Long Live were echoing for both the brothers. Sharad and Ramkumar's family has been living in Kolkata for generations. Originally he was from Bikaner district of Rajasthan. Their sister was going to get married on December 12, about a month after the funeral of both brothers.
