Article 370 gives a special status to Jammu and Kashmir state.
In November 26,1949 Indian Constitution was adopted by Constituent Assembly and came into force on January 26, 1950. It is a book which contains rules. All state members agree to follow the rules. But Jammu and Kashmir politicians not agree to follow the rules. They want a special constitution for the state. If India not agree to this condition, we will merge our state to Pakistan. So India agreed to their condition and gives a special status that is Article 370 and 35A.
From 1954 onwards Jammu and Kashmir gets a special status.
Advantages of Article 370 are ;
(1). Central Government has the power to divide any state into two or change the name of the state. But this rule cannot apply on Jammu and Kashmir state.
(2). Central Government has the power to implement new rules in any state without asking the state government. But it's not possible in Jammu and Kashmir. But It has the power to change defence, foreign affairs and communication.
(3). In India there is only one flag for the country. But Jammu and Kashmir has two flags for its state.
(4). Before 1954, who has lived in Jammu and Kashmir for 10 years, only gets the state citizenship.
(5). Indian citizens can buy the land in any state except in Jammu and Kashmir. That is Indians don't have the right to property in J& K state.
(6). Jammu and Kashmir people has two citizenship. But in India only one citizenship is allowed.
(7). Jammu and Kashmir people can disrespect Indian flag and national anthem.
(8). If any crime occurs in Indian states the central government has the power to implement President rule in that state. It has no power to implement in Jammu and Kashmir state. It can declare emergency while wars occur in the state.
(9). Only J&K people gets the scholarship in the state. But other can't get. Only J &K people get government job in the state. But in India any one can get job in other states.
(10). If J&K woman marries Indian man; The woman loses her citizenship. If she marries Pakistan man, her citizenship will be alive.
If Pakistan man marries J&K woman, he can get Indian citizenship.
This is the reason terrorist comes into India.
In 2019 election campaign BJP promises to remove Article 370 and 35A from the constitution. As they promises to remove Articles, on August 6th they passes the bill in Parliament. Central Government agreed to the bill and removed Articles from constitution. And Jammu and Kashmir divided in two union territories that is Jammu and Ladakh.
