The news of Irrfan Khan passing away spread like wildfire in the world. He was as much appreciated in Hollywood as he was in Bollywood. He was a simple man of less words and more emotions. He followed this in his acting as well. Even if he is just present in a scene, you will not be able shift your focus off from his screaming eyes. He emoted through his eyes and the way of his dialogue delivery was very unique and special. He was a known name now, but his life was filled with struggles throughout. He emerged as winner from all his struggles, but lost his last battle with Colon infection and took his last breath on 29th of April 2020. He died at the age of 53 in Mumbai.
His life was filled with struggles from the start. He loved playing cricket and he was a all-rounder, where he was able to gather a few runs with his bat and was also able to crack a few wickets with his bowling. He was even selected for the Col CK Nayudu trophy tournament to play. He lived in Jaipur at the time and they had to travel to Ajmer for the tournament. The cost of the ticket was around 200-250 rupees at that time. But, Irrfan was unable to arrange the money required to buy his ticket because his family did not support his desire to make a career in sports. With this opportunity lost, he quit cricket and instead found his new passion films, inspired by Naseeruddin Shah.
He then started his schooling at the National School of Drama. When he was about to complete his graduation he was cast in Salaam Bombay by Mira Nair in the year 1988. He was ecstatic that finally his film career has begun. But, he actually made his Bollywood debut after 15 years through Haasil in 2003. He did many critically acclaimed movies including Maqbool, Lunchbox, Life of Pie, The Namesake, Paan Singh Tomar, Life in a Metro, etc. He was awarded a National Film Award for portraying the role of Paan Singh Tomar in 2011. He was also awarded the Padma Shri by the President in the year 2011. It was a happy year for him. He was doing really well in Bollywood as well as Hollywood where he appeared in Slumdog Millionaire, Life of Pie, Inferno, Jurassic Park, etc.
But, life has different plans for him. He was diagnosed with advanced stage of Neuroendocrine Tumour, a rare cancer. He sought treatment in London for the same for a year. He even recovered well and returned to do his next film Angrezi Medium. The film tanked at the box office due to the pandemic in our country. But, as always the performance of Irrfan was much appreciated and he outshined everyone else. He won all his battles in like to make a name for himself, but lost his last battle. We pray that may he find peace in his heavenly abode.
