Terminator 2 is an example of a sequence that comes up and just destroys the original movie in every aspect. In this sequel to the original, Skynet sends back an advanced liquid metal-based exterminator to destroy John Connor once and for all. Connor's only hope is the T-800, a reprogrammed version of the same machine that once nearly succeeded in killing his mother.
2. MAD MAX 2 - THE ROAD WARRIOR - 1981

Mel Gibson plays the title character, a “desolate man” who wanders out in a waste land mentioned earlier, after his wife and son are shot down by itinerant travelers.
Some sort of unspecified Armageddon has occurred, with only the fastest, smartest, and cruelest capable of surviving like the remnants of humanity's desert wandering for fuel.
3. THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL - 1951

This movie is a sci-fi work of the thinking man. Rather than epic space battles and evil empires, the film features a visiting alien Klaatu. Klaatu arrives on Earth and calls for peace among the peoples of the planet; if humanity extends its propensity for violence, it will be destroyed.
4. THE MATRIX - 1999

The Matrix captured the imaginations of sci-fi lovers everywhere, and offered them the kind of movie they had never seen before. It is full of all kinds of philosophical questions about the definition of reality, whether the world around is true or illusion, and which is the strongest kung fu.
The film struggled to be smarter and more concerned than the action movie average, yet was never afraid to set aside any reverie for well-choreographed beating.
5. PLANET OF THE APES - 1968

The 1968 original Planet of the Apes is not only a great science fiction movie, it is also one of the first franchises of its kind to leave Hollywood.
The wonderfully misanthropic George Taylor, Charlton Heston, leads in outer space to stay away from the damned dirty hippies in the far future of 1972, only to end up living among all those dirty monkeys in the far future in the 40th century.
