Pitbull is a term commonly used to describe several breeds of dogs belonging to the Molosser breed group.
Many jurisdictions that prohibit the breed of pitbull dogs include Ontario, Canada, and Denver, Colorado, they use the term "pitbull" to be a modern American pit bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Staffordshire bull Terrier or others for any dog that has sufficient physical characteristics and similar morphology of this breed. However, some jurisdictions such as Singapore and Franklin County, Ohio also classify the modern American bulldog as a "pitbull type dog", whereas in the United Kingdom the term is only the American pit bull terrier.
These three breeds have the same history, according to which they originate from bulldogs and different types of terrier dogs. The term also refers to dogs that were known as "bull terriers" in the 20th century before the development of the modern bull terrier.
Studies have been done on human accidents in relation to dogs of pitbull breed due to many publicized incidents. As a result of such incidents, breed specific laws were implemented in many special areas and the liability premium was increased in respect of them. Some airlines have banned air travel by pitbull dogs, although in some incidents these restrictions have been imposed for the benefit of the dogs themselves.
Although all dogs of the pitbull type evolved by the same hybridization between the bulldogs and the terriers, the history of each individual breed within this group differs to some extent. There are approximately 77.5 million private dogs in the United States; although the figures regarding the number of pitbull type dogs are not reliable. In the United States, animal shelter centers provided approximately 1.7 million dogs in 2008. Desire was given death; Approximately 980,000 or 58 percent of these dogs were of the pitbull breed, based on an estimate.
