This movie is,action-packed, fresh and also violent overall. A superhero hero movie in its own right, Netflix's 'The Old Guard' gives us something that's rarely seen in action movies these days a compelling narrative. And also it was so satisfying to witness one after such a long wait. A true comic to screen translation, the story is about a group of immortal mercenaries saving humanity in the shadows and their one 'whatever it takes' mission.
The first half may seem a bit slow, but it helps in establishing a strong base story-wise which may kick-start another franchise soon (and I hope it does). The second half on the other hand, has most of the movie's raw action, including a scene were Charlize Theron (the leader of the mercenaries) single handedly takes down a group with a sword in one hand and a pistol in the other (had to mention). Yet it's difficult to call the movie flawless, given it's evident timeline inconsistencies. The whole cast is great as they skillfully get into their respective characters' mind frame and portray the emotions with ease. The electronic music is the cherry on top of the beautifully choreographed action sequences. The ending too comes out of nowhere and will make you nostalgic of the good old MCU style endings.
Nevertheless, 'The Old Guard' seems to be a promising new player in the comic-adapted action movie game.
