National Junk Food Day 2020: From Pizza, Hamburgers to Gyros, Popular Junk Food From Around The World You Just Cannot Say NO To!


Happy National Junk Food Day! It's time to get all the pizzas, burgers, fries on the table and savour in them together. Although it may not be a healthy choice to make, to chomp down on all of them together. July 21 is marked as the National Junk Food Day in the US. Now the day does not have a fixed origin but the name's enough to convey one celebrates by eating on the junk items. No one can say no to these yummy, lip-smacking things, right? So on Junk Food Day, we look at popular junk items from around the world. 
Pizza, Italy
Can we even start on a junk food list, without having pizza as the top? Italian fast food is now dominating in most countries and a favourite of many. The toppings have evolved, the crusts have gone thicker to thinner and now include cheese-bursts too. Are you craving one, right now? Order in. 
Taco, Mexico
The only healthy part of this Mexican speciality is the wheat tortilla. But it is the filling that adds in all the taste (junk). The filling can be veg, non-veg and mixed with variety of condiments like such as salsa, guacamole, or sour cream. This Mexican street food has also spread considerably around the world.
Poutine, Canada
Poutine is a dish that includes french fries and cheese curds topped with gravy. It is also called as the Canadian National dish. No one says no to fries, and with added amounts of cheese and classic gravy, it is a favourite.
Crepes, France
Yes, crepes do come under junk food too. It is a very thin pancake that's often topped with a lot of chocolate cream, honey and maybe some fruits. These days we have a lot of healthy crepe options, which are becoming increasingly popular today.
Pakoras, India
Pakoras are deep-fried snacks, often made with potato and onion. It is a very popular street food served in bakery buns with a spicy chutney. There are different vegetables mixed in flour batter and deep-fried.
Hamburgers, US
A hamburger is a sandwich consisting of one or more cooked patties of ground meat, usually beef, placed inside a bun. Hamburgers became popular as burgers all over the world, with the patties differing from place to place. There are different varieties like grilled, smoked, fried and baked. 
Borek, Turkey
Borek is a baked filled pastry that has a flaky dough. A large borek is made and served in pieces just like a cake. There are so many varieties of making a borek, some have feta cheese, some use a lot of butter, some have a filling of meat too.
Gyros, Greece
Gyros are a popular Greek dish, which is very similar to wraps. The filling consisting a mix of meat and veggies topped with tzatziki sauce is served in a pita bread roll. It mostly uses pork, beef or lamb meat.
Currywurst, Germany
A fast-food dish from Germany, it consists of steamed, then fried pork sausage cut into bite-sized chunks and seasoned with curry ketchup. It is served with a side of french fries. It has a smoky, spicy and little sweet flavour to it.
