Richa Sharma was born on 29th of August 1974 in Haryana. She belongs to a Hindu family. She has 5 siblings. Her parents are Manorma Devi and Pandit Dayashankar Upadhyay. She did her primary schooling from a local school in her hometown. She went to the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in New Delhi and pursed her graduation in Diploma in Music. She likes listening old songs are travelling very much. She is diehard fan of singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Abid Parveen and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. She took training in classical music and light music from Pandit Askaran Sharma. She was interested in singing and music, since from her childhood. She started singing at the age of 9. She became a popular singer in her city. She used to sing in marriages, birthday parties, temples and othervreligious programs.
Richa also sang songs in religious program conducted by popular film director Saawan Kumar Tak. Sawaan noticed her singing talent and offered to sing a songs for his movie Salma Pe Dil Aa Gaya. She made her debut as playback singer by singing the song Mohabbat Aisi Mehndi in 1997. People liked her voice and she got many good reviews from public. Later, she sang songs for films like Zubeidaa, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Taal, Bhagban etc. She became so popular by singing songs for films like Baabul and Om Shanti Om. She sang title songs for many serials.
She is so kind and down to earth. She sang songs with many popular singers like Shaan, Palak Muchal, Sonu Nigam etc. She participated in singing reality show Dhoom Macha De. She appeared as judge for singing show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs. She appeared as guest in many reality shows like Indian Idol, The Kapil Sharma Show, Jo Jeeta Wahi Superstar etc. She won awards like "Best Female Vocalist of the Year" and "Best Singer".
