Overall Review
This gorgeous movie is the classic remake of the Disney cartoon version of "Mulan" 22 years ago. The timeless oriental values of valor, loyalty and truthfulness are the central themes of the movie. The 3 words, inscribed on the Hua's family sword, are often repeated in the movie. Mulan offered herself to take her father's place to fight against the northern invaders. It was an act of sacrifice for her father and family, a virtue that is steeped in eastern culture.
However, there are some alterations in this live-action remake. Instead of Mushu, there is a phoenix which only appears on screen to give Mulan confidence resembling her ancestors from her family line. The director did a fine job in maintaining the quality of the original. There is no forced-feminist things in the movie. The movie beautifully delivers the message of gender equality, bravery, truthfulness, loyalty and family. All the actors did a great job. The movie predictive but enjoyable.
Final Rating: 8/10
