James Cameron announces that 'Avatar 2' has finished filming! Everything we know so far!

After working together on two installments of Terminator and Risky Lies , James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger seem to have contracted a beautiful friendship, which decades later has put them on board the Austrian World Summit, an event that seeks to raise awareness about the environment. Within the actor's YouTube channel, in fact, the two had a relaxed conversation in which in the end it was inevitable that Schwarzenegger would ask the filmmaker about the state of the Avatar saga .

Since the story of Pandora and the Na'vi is first and foremost an environmental claim, the question was highly pertinent. And that's when Cameron revealed that the sequel to the 2009 smash hit was already finished, leaving the (otherwise very elaborate) post-production to be completed. In fact, the next installment is in a similar state:

“We have about 10% left, but Avatar 2 is 100% finished and we have 95% Avatar 3 . We are very lucky to have chosen this production location years ago ” , he revealed.

In recent months, the team members have been bombarding us with footage from the shoot , giving an account of the immense sets , the anti-COVID security measures and, for example, the enthusiasm of Sigourney Weaver filming his own action scenes. However, the work in New Zealand had to be postponed due to the health crisis, modifying the entire schedule for the saga.

"COVID-19 hit us, like all of us," he continued. “We lost four and a half months of production and as a result we have delayed the release for a whole year, until December 2022. That does not mean that we have another year to finish the film, because the day we deliver Avatar 2 we will start working to finish Avatar 3 " .

The second installment of Avatar will be released specifically on December 16 ; the third, fourth and fifth deliveries will arrive on December 20, 2024 , December 18, 2026 and December 22, 2028 .

So we won't see the end of this epic for another eight years, but Cameron is sure that the public will know how to wait. It is supported, possibly, by the monumental blockbuster that was the inaugural Avatar , erected as the highest grossing film in history until the premiere of Avengers: Endgame last year.
