In the 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the MI suffered a deep shock by losing their opening match to the Chennai Super Kings. But this is not the first time when Rohit Sharma's captaincy team has made a very bad start in the league, rather it should be said that starting the IPL campaign with the defeat in the opening match has become the team's pastime. Let me tell you that out of 13 seasons of IPL, MI lost their opening matches in 9 seasons.
Losing their first match continuously since 2013
The round of poor start in the league for Mumbai Indians was started in IPL-2013 when they were defeated by Royal Challengers Banglore by 2 runs. After that MI has lost in their 8 consecutive opening matches. In the IPL-2014, the KKR defeated MI by 41 runs and by 7 wickets in the IPL-2015. Rising Pune SuperJiants defeated MI by 9 wickets in IPL-2016 and 7 wickets in 2017. Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings defeated MI by 1 wicket in IPL-2018 and Delhi Capitals by 37 runs in IPL-2019. Now in IPL-2020 too, Chennai Super Kings have not let Mumbai's record be beaten by beating them by 5 wickets.
Some time MI won their first match of the season. In the first season of IPL i,e in2008, MI defeated RCB by 5 wickets. In IPL-2009, Mumbai defeated Chennai Super Kings by 19 runs and then won by 4 runs over Rajasthan Royals in IPL-2010. In IPL-2011, Mumbai won defeated Delhi Daredevils by 8 wickets, and in IPL-2012, MI defeated Chennai Super Kings by 8 wickets.
Let me tell you that UAE stadiums are not lucky for Mumbai Indians. MI has lost in all 6 matches played here by opposition teams. 4 times IPL champion MI had lost all their matches played in UAE during IPL-2014.
