Bengali Street Food Vegetable Chop Delicious Recipe

 

Vegetable chop! This is a Bengali street food which is very famous in Kolkata and other parts of Bengal. Tried recreating it and it tasted yum! So Let's see its delicious recipe!

  • 3 medium beetroots or 1 and 1/2 cup beetroot in cubes
  • 1 cup carrot (cut into medium cubes)
  • 3 medium-sized potatoes
  • 1/2 inch ginger or ginger paste
  • 1 green chili
  • a handful of dry roasted peanuts
  • 2 tbsp sugar(as per taste)
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • salt(as required)

Ingredients for Baja Masala:

  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds
  • 4 green cardamom
  • 1/2 tsp amchur or dry mango powder
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp black salt
  • 1/2 inch cinnamon stick
  • 8 peppercorns
  • 1 or 2 red chilies (as per taste)
  • 6 tbsp maida
  • 1 cup bread crumbs

Method:

1. Blend all the ingredients to make the Baja masala in a blender and make a fine powder and keep the Baja masala aside. Firstly steam the vegetables and mash smooth.

credit:party image reference2. Now in a large kadhai heat 2 tsp oil and saute ½ tsp ginger paste and 1 chili. Further, add mashed vegetables and saute for 5 minutes. Cook until the mixture loses its moisture and separates pan. Then add Bhaja masala, ½ tsp sugar, and ¼ tsp salt. Mix well until spices are cooked well.

3. Furthermore, add 3 tbsp roasted & crushed peanuts, 2 tbsp coriander. Mix well, prepare cylindrical shape vegetable mixture. Dip in maida paste coating all over, then roll in breadcrumbs. Now deep fry in hot oil or bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celcius for 15 minutes.
