In the 12th match of IPL 2020 played in Dubai, Kolkata defeated Delhi by 37 runs to register their second win of the season. After a brilliant inning by Shubman Gill (47), KKR thrashed the Royals easily thanks to the excellent bowling of young Shivam Mavi (2/20), Kamlesh Nagerkoti (2/13), and Varun Chakraborty (2/25).
Kolkata, batting first, scored 174 for six from the innings of Gill, Eoin Morgan, 34 not out, Nitish Rana (22), and Andre Russell (24). In response, Rajasthan's team was able to score 137 runs for nine wickets. This is Rajasthan's first defeat of the season. This pushed her from first to third place in the table.
Tom's fifties: Rajasthan did not have a good start. Half of his team had returned to the pavilion for just 42 runs. Tom Karan scored an unbeaten 54 off 36 balls to take the team to 137. Apart from them, opener Butler (24) and Rahul Tewatia (14) reached double digits. Sanju Samson, who played half-century winnings in the last two matches, returned to the pavilion after scoring eight runs.
Shubman and Rana added 46 runs: Kolkata got off to a decent start after getting invited from Rajasthan to bat. Both openers Shubman and Sunil Naren (15) steadily carried the innings forward. In the Powerplay, Kolkata scored 42 runs for one wicket. Both of them shared a 36-run partnership for the first wicket. The partnership ended with Jaydev Unadkat bowling Naren in the fifth over. Subsequently, Shubman added 42 runs for the second wicket with Rana. It seemed at one time that Gill would play a big inning when Joffra Archer ended his winnings by catching his catch on his own ball. He missed his second half-century by three runs. He faced five fours and a six in his innings facing 34 balls.
Russell also went cheap: West Indies blaster Andre Russell also failed to perform as expected. He scored 24 runs in 14 balls with the help of three sixes. Ankit Rajput got him caught by Unadkat. After this, Morgan took over. He shared 34 for the sixth wicket with Pat Cummins (12) and an unbeaten 25 for the seventh wicket with Kamlesh Nagarkoti to take the score to 170.
Karthik scored a run out: Captain Dinesh Karthik could not do anything special. He returned to the pavilion, scoring one run, playing three balls. He was caught by Archer at the hands of Butler. Karthik has scored just 31 runs in three matches so far. Only five fours have come off his bat.
Broken corona rule for the first time: During Kolkata's batting, the Corona rule was broken for the first time in the IPL in the third over. Rajasthan's fielder Robin Uthappa dropped a catch from batsman Sunil Narine off Jaydev Unadkat. He then accidentally applied saliva to the ball. The ICC has banned saliva on the ball due to Corona. The team is warned twice for saliva in every winning. As a penalty for the third time, five runs are added to the account of the opposition team.
