Sweets are an essential part of Diwali celebrations. We do make a lot of sweets to share with our family and friends as well as we do get a lot of sweets from our loved ones as a token of wishes and blessings. And one of the repetitive thing about Diwali is the same sweets that we make year by year. And for a change this year we are going to try some traditional and delicious sweets from North Indian cuisine for Diwali celebrations to make it a special one.
SHAHI TUKDA
- Ingredients
- Bread: 4 slices
- Ghee: Accordingly
- Milk: 3/4 cup
- Sugar: 3-4 teaspoons
- Sweet khova: Accordingly
- Thick cream: 4 spoons
- Chopped almonds and pistachio: accordingly
- Saffron: accordingly

Cut off the corners of bread slices and cut them into triangular pieces. Heat ghee in a pan and add these bread slices and fry them at both the sides. By this time boil up milk with sugar and make it into a thick solution and then keep it aside for cooling for few minutes. Then dip the fried bread slices in this milk and sugar mixture and then serve it in the serving dish. Pour cream over it and then garnish it with almonds, pistachio and then with saffron and serve with love.
BESAN LADOO
- Ingredients
Besan or gram flour: 150 gram
Ghee: 100 gram
Sugar: 250 gram
Cardamom: 4 no.
Pistachio: 30 gram
Cashew nuts: 30 gram
Almonds: 30 gram
- Recipe
Heat a pan and add ghee and besan or gram flour to it and stir well until ghee separates and oozes out from the besan or gram flour. Then again heat it until it attains a light brown tint. Later keep it aside for cooling. By this time dry roast the almonds, pistachio and cashew nuts and then add them to the besan or gram flour. Grind sugar and cardamom in mixer grinder until it forms fine powder and then add this to the besan and gram flour and knead and mix well. Grease your palm with ghee and then make it into the shape of ladoos. Serve it by garnishing with chopped almonds.
