Will Pakowski received an Australia call-up after a promising run in the first home season. A consecutive double century at the Sheffield Shield included him in the Test squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series.

Pakovsky missed the opening two rounds of the competition. Nevertheless, he has scored 495 runs in three innings so far this season and is currently the tournament's highest run-scorer. His batting progress has impressed former Australian captain Mark Taylor, who has urged national selectors to choose Pukowski to bat against India.

"Pokowski said he is ready - he has scored two double centuries. Select it while in form. He has the potential to be a player for the next decade, ”Taylor said on Channel 9's Sports Sunday.

On the other hand, in the summer of last year, Joe Burns averaged 32 runs for Australia and made a below-par start to the Sheffield Shield season, scoring 57 runs in five innings.

"I will play Will Pokowski and leave Joe Burns out. Burns averages 38 in Test cricket, he has been a great player for Australia.

Pukowski was on the verge of making a place in the Test team at the end of 2018 but walked away from the game citing mental health concerns. Taylor praised Young for taking a six-week break from cricket to deal with mental health issues.

"He is known by the open and honest word that it is not easy. The sides I played in were seen as a sign of weakness, now it is seen as a sign of strength. His openness and his transparency with his mental health issues have really helped him, and I think youth sports are a very good example for people.

However, head coach Justin Langer has indicated that he is likely to top Burns for the opening test in Adelaide starting on 17 December.
