Pushkar: Know everything about the Spiritual and holy town of Rajasthan
Pushkar is one of the oldest cities in India. Located in the northwest of Ajmer, Pushkar is a favorite place for tourists and pilgrims. Located at an altitude of 510 meters, Pushkar is surrounded by small hills on three sides. Pushkar is a favorite tourist spot of Rajasthan because it is a temple town.
Pushkar town is curling around Pushkar Lake, which is a holy place. It is being said that Lotus was dropped by Lord Brahma on the site. He then decided to name the place after the flower, and thus the name, Pushkar. This is considered a chosen city where Brahma is worshiped. Pushkar is situated on the banks of the lake and Devata Savitri and Gayatri are worshiped here as the wives of Lord Brahma.

Pushkar lake
Pushkar Lake is a semi-arched shape of the holy water body, also called 'Tirthraaj'. According to Hindu mythology, the lake was made from a petal that fell off from the lotus flower, with which Lord Brahma killed the vajranabh. There are more than 300 temples around Pushkar Lake and 52 Ghats, where devotees take holy baths. It is believed that if a person dives in the lake on the day of Kartik full moon, then all his/her sins are washed away and the water also cures all the diseases of the skin. The fair, which took place a week earlier than Kartik Purnima, is very famous. Known as 'Pushkar Mela or Pushkar Camel Fair', there are over 50000 camels witnessed with millions of passengers here. It is must visit the place and you get a spectacular view here.
Brahma temple
There are more than 500 temples in Pushkar and among them, the most popular and important is Brahma temple. Many old temples including the Brahma Temple were demolished during Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb's reign. It was rebuilt later. The temple of Brahma is also called Jagatpita Brahma Temple. This famous Hindu pilgrimage site is mainly made of stone slabs and marble. The main idols of the temple are Brahma and his wife Gayatri. On the entrance of the temple, there is a swan. With the holy Pushkar lake, people also visit this temple. Like the Gayatri temple, there are many other temples near the lake, which is dedicated to Brahma's second wife.
This temple is open during the summer from 5 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the morning and from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m in the evening. During winter, time ranges from 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Savitri Temple Pushkar
Savitri temple situated on the top of a hill named Ratnagiri is devoted to Savitri, wife of Brahma. This temple is situated at an altitude of about 750 feet and you can reach Savitri temple by climbing 650 steps. The best time to visit the temple is early in the morning because you will be able to see the sunrise quite clear from the top of the hill. There are three idols in the temple. These include Devi Savitri, Goddess Sarada, and Goddess Saraswati.
This temple is open from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the morning and from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m in the evening. There is no entry fee.
Man Mahal Pushkar
Built to serve as Raja Man Singh's guest house, Man Mahal is one of Pushkar's biggest palaces. This palace is one of the most popular tourist places in the city. This palace has now been converted into a heritage hotel and it is called RTDC Hotel Sarovar. The castle still retains its old charm. The hotel is run by Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation. From the hotel, you can see a spectacular view of the lake and surrounding areas.
Hotel facilities include camping, camel carriage, Puskar cattle fair Toros, Pushkar Lake, etc. It also offers a range of recreational facilities, including a restaurant, bar, spa and transport facilities.
Gayatri Mata Temple (Pap-Mochani)
Pap-Mochani Temple is dedicated to Ekadashi Mata and devotees believe that the visit of this temple will be free from their sins. The beautiful architecture of the temple will appeal to you. The architecture of Pap Mochini Temple provides an insight into the ancient architecture of India. This temple is situated on the banks of a holy lake. Before entering the temple, people generally take a sacred dip in the holy water of the lake. The temple is also close to a plain where fairs are organized.
Old Rangji Temple Pushkar
This temple is dedicated to Lord Rangji, which is the incarnation of Vishnu. Thousands of tourists and devotees come here to visit this 150-year-old Hindu temple. The most important feature of the temple is its architecture, which is a unique blend of Rajput, Mughal and South Indian architectural styles. Rangji temple structure consists of a high gopuram, which is commonly seen in the South Indian temples.
There is a statue of Goddess Lakshmi, Shri Ramanujacharya, Devadamaji and Krishna in the temple premises. Here, priests of Ayyangar community in Tamil Nadu worship daily, this temple is open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on all days of the week.
Varaha Temple Pushkar
The Varah Temple is the largest and the oldest temple of Pushkar. The 12th-century ruler, King Anaji Chauhan, built this temple and it is dedicated to Lord Vishnu as the third incarnation of a wild boar. It is one of the oldest temples in Pushkar.
Gurudwara Singh Sahab
Gurudwara Singh Sabha, situated in the eastern part of Pushkar, was built at the beginning of the 19th century to commemorate the visits of the first and the tenth gurus- Guru Nanak Dev and Guru Govind Singhji.
How to reach Pushkar
By air: Sanganer Airport in Jaipur is the nearest at a distance of 146 kilometers.
By train: Pushkar Terminus Railway station which is operational since 2012, is connected to Ajmer railway station located at a distance of 14 kilometers.
By road: Pushkar is well connected to the national highways of Rajasthan. Regular buses ply from Pushkar to the major cities of Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Ajmer from the Ajmer bus stand.
