According to a report by Nextweb, its root was a double free bug of WhatsApp. The double free bug of WhatsApp corrupted the memory of the phone. After corrupting the memory, this bug crashed applications and gave hackers access to the device.
Bug was hidden in Gallery view
According to the report, this bug was hidden in the Gallery view of WhatsApp and with this the hackers used to preview the photos, videos and GIFs in the user's phone. At the same time, WhatsApp says about this bug has been fixed only last month. Along with this, WhatsApp has said that there is no point in accepting the fact that this bug is harming users.
Bug fixed in latest version
Researchers said that this bug was working perfectly until version 2.19.230 of WhatsApp, but the company fixed it with the version 2.19.244 update of WhatsApp. Not only this, this bug also posed a major threat to the Android 8.1 and Android 9.0 operating systems. At the same time, Android 8.0 and below were protected from this bug.
There is a danger on the old Android version
Researchers have said that this bug can come at any time on older versions of Android. However, the app crashes immediately due to the system's maillock calls after a double free bug. According to Gizmodo's report, it does not reach the point where the PC register can be controlled.
