World Food Day: Its not What you Think it is!
The first thing that comes to our mind when we hear the term, ' World Food Day' is that its a day of celebration with some good food to have. But that is so not the case. While we all enjoy the luxuries of eating the delicious food of our choice more than 800 million people are hungry with no food to eat at the moment. So yes this day does not call for a celebration rather its a day dedicated to tackle hunger around the world.

Some Statistics of hunger around the world.
  • One in every nine people around the world do not have healthy food to eat to lead a healthy active life.
  • About 12.9 % of the overall population are undernourished and Asia being the continent with the most hungry people.
  • Lack of nutrition causes the death of nearly 3.1 million children under the age of 5, every year.
  • In developing countries, one out of every 6 children is underweight exposing them to serious diseases.
  • Over 66 million children attend school without food to eat and 22 million in Africa alone.
  • Children are the most affected by hunger and the stats keep growing every year

What are its Causes?
  • Poverty is the main cause of hunger. People lack the income and resources to afford the basic need of food.
  • Hunger is also the main cause of poverty. With increase in Hunger people do not have the power to perform any activity at work and hence their income decreases and hunger increases.
  • Political Unrest and conflicts. Due to political unrest and conflicts among countries, people are directly affected with no resources to eat at the time of violence.

We consider ourselves lucky that we have the resources and money to afford the food we like but sympathy for the people suffering is not enough. World Food Day is not a day for celebration and definitely not for showing our sympathy towards the needy but rather a day to spread awareness and contribute to the cause that will help eradicate hunger.
