Stomach soother - Ginger is potent remedy for motion sickness and gastric ailments. The chemical compounds that give ginger it's zesty taste - mainly gingernol and shogaol seem to reduce intestinal contractions, neutralize digestive acids and inhibit the 'vomiting centre' in the brain. Ginger is much better at preventing nausea than stopping it. If you are susceptible to motion sickness, for instance take ginger before you get in car or on board a long distance bus or boat. Take about 1/4 teaspoon of powdered ginger , 1gm of ginger in capsule form or 1 cm slice fresh root ginger 20 minutes before travelling.

Things to know
A 1 cm slice of root ginger. Grated ginger will release more of the active ingredients than slicing or chopping.
Always buy fresh ginger, avoid the ones with soft spots and wrinkled skin.
It is always recommended to add fresh ginger rather than packed ginger paste or artificially flavored ginger tea bags.
