Aishwarya Rai, also known by her married name Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, is an Indian actress, model and the winner of the Miss World 1994 pageant. Through her successful acting career, she has established herself as one of the most popular and influential celebrities in India.

Abhishek and Aishwarya had a baby girl, Aaradhya, a couple of years back. Since motherhood, Aishwarya had taken a sabbatical from films but was seen in commercials. She will make a comeback with Jazbaa. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made her acting debut with the Tamil flick Iruvar, in 1997.

She became the first Indian actress to be a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003. Initially, Aishwarya wanted to pursue a career in medicine. Later, she dropped the idea and decided to study architecture and got enrolled at Rachana Sansad Academy of Architecture. The actor, however, she quit studies to get into modelling. Aishwarya was in 9th grade when she got featured in her first commercial ad for Camlin Pencils.

In 2012, Aishwarya was awarded Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government. Aishwarya shot the famous Pepsi ad with Aamir Khan in just one night during the Mumbai riots in 1992-93. The 43-year-old actor collects all news articles which are written on her.

She was born on 1 November 1973. Rai has received numerous accolades, including two Filmfare Awards from eleven nominations, and she was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2009 .

Her first Hindi film debut was Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya. Her father Krishnaraj who died on 18 March 2017 was an Army biologist while her mother Vrinda is a homemaker. She has one elder brother Aditya Rai who is an engineer in the merchant navy.

Rai is Hindu and deeply religious. Rai gave birth to a girl Aaradhya on 16 November 2011. Rai is commonly referred to by fans and the media by the nicknames "Ash" and "Aish" but has stated that she dislikes being called as such. Her physical appearance and performances have made her a style icon for young women.

In October 2004 a wax figure of Rai was put on display in London's Madame Tussaud's wax museum. She was the sixth Indian and the second Bollywood personality after her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan to get this honour. In 2007 the same figure was displayed at Madame Tussaud's Museum in Times Square in New York.

Aishwarya has modeled for leading brands such as Longines Watches, Coca Cola, Lakme Cosmetics, Philips, Palmolive, Lux and Fuji Films; she was also named the official brand ambassador of De Beers Diamonds in India. Aishwarya has worked in over 40 films in Hindi, English, Tamil, Telegu and Bengali and is often referred to by the media as the Most Beautiful Woman in the World.

Aishwarya Rai was born in Mangalore. Her family later moved to Mumbai where Rai did her schooling, and later enrolled at the Raheja College with plans of becoming an architect. Her first commercial success was with the Tamil film Jeans in 1998.

During the year 2003- 2005 Aishwarya faced a setback in her career after most of her films do well at the box office after that she appeared in films like Dhoom 2 in 2006, Guru in 2007 and Jodhaa Akbar in 2008 all of which were commercially and critically acclaimed. Rai has established herself as one of the leading actresses in Bollywood.
