Ayurveda explains the code of conduct to be followed while eating food regularly. Unknowingly most of us make mistakes while food intake. The rules for taking food are indeed the golden rules one should follow to remain healthy. We can take a look at these simple, but effective tips for good health.
Rule 1
One should take warm food. This has many advantages. It helps in stimulating the digestive enzymes. Food is tastiest when taken warm.
Rule 2
One should take food that is snigdha or unctuous. This increases the taste of food and also the digestive power. It causes the downward movement of vata. This improves the function of the sense organs, promotes strength and improves the complexion of a person.
Rule 3
Take only the proper quantity of food. Do not eat more or less. It helps to promote longevity as it does not impair the power of digestion.
Rule 4
One should eat food only after the previous meal is digested. Now the question is how can we know whether the previous meal is digested? When the previous meal is digested, we develop a sense of hunger. Eat only after we feel hungry.
Rule 5
One should eat food which does not have contradictory potencies. For example, don't eat curd and chicken together. Both have opposite virya or potency.
Rule 6
One should eat in a comfortable place with all the necessary equipment.

Rule 7
Do not eat food in a hurry. It may enter into the wrong passage. In this situation, you can never determine the taste of food or detect any foreign bodies if present in them.
Rule 8
Do not eat food very slowly. This will not give satisfaction. Also, the person takes more food than required if he eats slowly. This will cause irregularity in digestion.

Rule 9
Eat food with full concentration. Do not indulge in other activities like laughing, talking etc while eating food.
Rule 10
Eat with self-confidence. One should take food in a prescribed manner, with due regard to his self.
