Rome| The problems for Italy do not seem to be ending soon with the coronavirus, as it reported the worst day since the coronavirus outbreak in the European country. Italy recorded 969 deaths on Friday due to coronavirus infection, the worst daily record for any country since the pandemic started.
However, the infection rate continued its downward trend with 86,500 confirmed cases in Italy. The increase rate was 7.4%, lesser than the increase rate of 8% in previous days.
Reuters reported 919 fatalities, still the highest in any country since the beginning of the pandemic.
March 21, when 793 people died, was the worst day for Italy before Friday.
Over 900 people died on Friday comparing to 712 deaths on Thursday, 683 on Wednesday, 743 on Tuesday and 602 on Monday.
The total number of coronavirus cases in Italy surged to 86,498 from a previous 80,539. Italy surpassed the number of confirmed cases in China, where the Covid-19 disease had started at the end of last year.

The United States already has passed the tally of coronavirus cases in China on Thursday.
On Friday, Italy saw 10,950 patients recovering from the deadly disease compared to 10,361 recoveries on Thursday.
The most affected in Italy is the northern region of Lombardy which has reported a significant rise in deaths compared with the day before and continues to be in a critical situation, with a total of 5,402 deaths and 37,298 cases. It had reported 4,861 deaths and 34,889 cases on Thursday.
