AHMEDABAD: The southwest monsoon moved up to Gujarat and adjoining Union Territory of Diu on Monday, causing moderate to heavy rains in many parts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a statement that the monsoon reached Kandla, including all districts of South Gujarat, Saurashtra region, Diu and parts of Ahmedabad, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod and Kutch districts of northern Gujarat. Due to the progress of monsoon, Saurashtra region received heavy rainfall since Monday morning. Meanwhile, lightning struck three people, including two fishermen, in Gir Somnath district on Monday.
According to the department, there will be light to moderate rain in many parts of the state except Saurashtra and South Gujarat during the next two days. According to the forecast of the department, "The remote areas of Saurashtra and South Gujarat will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on June 18-19".
