New Delhi: Pakistan-tainted leg-spinner Danish Kaneria, who is facing a life ban for spot-fixing, on Sunday backed Sourav Ganguly to become the next chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), saying that if this former Indian captain of the ICC If elected to the top post, he will have hopes of clearing his name.
Actually, during a conversation with a cricketer website, Kaneria said, 'I have been fighting this case for a long time, so I am hopeful that if Dada (Ganguly) comes to the post, he will look into my case and my name Will help me in my fight to get Pakistan clean so that I can give something back to cricket.
Danish continued, "If he becomes ICC chairman, he will become our voice, the voice of cricketers from all over the world who are in trouble ... at least he will listen to us as a player." Kaneria said that experience as a cricketer and administrator makes Ganguly the best choice for the post of ICC chairman. Kaneria was found guilty by a disciplinary panel in the spot-fixing case involving Mervyn Westfield. However, in 2012 the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) banned him from all types of cricket that came under his jurisdiction. Kaneria's appeal against the ban was also rejected in 2013 after which the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also banned him for life. Kenya admitted in 2018 that he was involved in the 2009 spot-fixing episode.
