‘"SAI" – A private Save Animals Initiative sanctuary’ is now one of a kind animal sanctuary. It is a home for many rare and endangered flora and fauna. It all started as a private abandoned land of 55 acres in 1992 now it has spread its wings and become the largest private animal sanctuary covering 300 acres in India.
It’s an inspiring journey of a couple who regained paradise in India. They are a role model for the today’s generations. We have so much to learn from them, and their journey from barren land to an awesome rain forest it all happened with their own hands. Now, as their contribution, they have saved our forest, wildlife, and also freed the area from air pollution at the same time the forest has given abundant water resource to the surrounding areas.
Dr. Anil Malhotra and Mrs. Pamela Malhotra bought waste lands in Kodagu district of Karnataka. They made a motto not to disturb the already existing flora and fauna and protected it from human interference and poachers. They have grown many local crops like coffee and cardamom and utilise all types of organic farming, solar, wind and water energies. It’s like a dream world to the couple and it’s been nearly 28 years since they started, now it has become a part of non- profitable trust and represented India on a bigger platform to the World.
The sanctuary is a home for many the Asian elephants, the Royal Bengal Tiger, the Indian King Cobra, leopards, jackals, deer, monkeys, various other species and birds. They used the Paradise Flycatcher which visits the sanctuary to represent them in their logo. The sanctuary is also a home for many old trees and some date back to nearly 700 years and others have medical benefits. There are some rare species of the flora and fauna which you may not find in any other places on the planet.
