Government oil companies reduced diesel prices by 12 to 15 paise per liter in the four major metros of the country on Tuesday for the sixth consecutive day, while three days later, the price of petrol was also reduced by eight paise.
Crude oil demand in September is the lowest in the last 4 months. The domestic market has been witnessing a fall in diesel prices since September 3 and so far a reduction of Rs 2.28 per liter has been recorded. Petrol has also become cheaper by more than one rupee per liter this month.
According to Indian Oil, a leading oil marketing company, petrol in Delhi today was 8 paise cheaper by 8 paise, while diesel was 15 paise cheaper by Rs 71.28 per liter. Petrol in the commercial city of Mumbai was reduced by Rs 87.74 per liter and diesel by 13 paise to Rs 77.74 per liter.
Petrol in Kolkata was reduced by Rs 82.59 per liter while diesel was down by 14 paise to Rs 74.880 per liter. Petrol price in Chennai was Rs 84.14 per liter, while diesel fell 12 paise to Rs 76.72 per liter. On
Friday, petrol prices were reduced from 23 paise to 26 paise and diesel prices were reduced from 35 paise to 37 paise per liter.
Petrol was cheaper by 14-16 paise and diesel by 19-20 paise on Thursday.
