To mark the 70th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Surat civic bodies, several associations, and business groups are planting 70,000 saplings across the city.
Deputy Mayor of Surat city, Nirav Shah told ANI, “We started this initiative 15 days ago. I think we will be able to plant 70,000 plants by 16 September. "
“The Prime Minister always urges everyone to celebrate their birthday by doing an activity that is beneficial to the people. This time we have come up with the idea of planting 70,000 saplings across the city, which will increase oxygen and be beneficial for future generations.
Surat has come up with the idea of greening its city and making it pollution free.
According to the deputy mayor, the initiative started 15 days ago. On 16 September they will achieve their goal of planting 70,000 saplings. Later on 17 September, they will plant more than the target set.
Various unions and business groups have joined the initiative and on Monday 500 employees of KP Sanghvi & Sons pledged to plant saplings and conserve water.
Speaking to ANI, Jitendra Madhia, Manager, KP Sanghvi & Sons said, "We have planted thousands of saplings and urged others to join this initiative on the occasion of PM Modi's 70th birthday."
