For four years we have been accompanying the Eleven and Co. through the horror of the 80s and the upside down. During this period, Stranger Things has blossomed into one of the most important and currently longest-lived Netflix series and established a formula for success for the streaming service: science fiction + young people.
So the legacy is great. But how much longer does Stranger Things run? The shooting of the long-confirmed 4th season has been underway since January. One last adventure round is guaranteed, but after that it could be over. Meanwhile we can be sure: Season 4 is not the last . The Corona break led the Duffers to realize that the story is not over yet.
That sounded very different for a long time. In 2017, Stranger Things inventors Matt and Ross Duffer spoke to Vulture for the first time about the end of their series.
" We think it's gonna be a 4 season thing and that's it." That was 3 years ago and the showrunners' view of the productivity of their material has changed.
But they haven't refreshed Hawkins, which is haunted by monsters and the supernatural, with new ideas since season 1. Stranger Things tells a new adventure issue after issue, there are hardly any connections between the stories, let alone a superordinate macro plot. What evolves are the characters.
The shooting was originally supposed to end in August, which would have made the traditional start in summer (seasons 1 and 3 came in July) impossible. Unfortunately, the restrictions caused by the corona pandemic delayed work on season 4 considerably. The allegedly targeted start at the beginning of 2021 will therefore be canceled and the focus will be on summer again.
