Tham Khoun Xe also referred to as Xe Bang Fai may be a large river cave located distant from Khammouane Province within the central area of Laos.
The cave comes from Annam Trung Sun within the border of Viet- Laos, crossing through the highland of Nakhai and flowing bent the Mekong. Nakia highland is made from layers of stone, sand, and carbon dissolved by the river to make the cave of Tham Khoun Xe nowadays with a length of seven km.
The cave was discovered by a gaggle of French explorers Paul Macey in 1905 and explored further again in 1995.
According to the report of the expedition, Tham Khoun Xe Cave is an underground section of the Xe Bang Fai River, which is taken into account one among the most important river caves within the world with giant caves of 120 meters high, 200 meters wide, and tons of impressive geological structures.
Before being discovered by explorers, the cave river was employed by the locals to fishing in downstream areas and at the cave's entrance.

The entrance of the cave features a vaulted arch of 60m high. River sections within the cave are about 76m wide and 53m high, but some areas exceed 100 meters wide.
