These included 14 samples of chips, namkeen, instant noodles, instant soup and 19 samples of burgers, fries, fried chicken, pizza, sandwiches and wraps. You have often heard people say that junk food or fast food damage health. The quantity of salt, sugar, carbohydrate, fat, protein present in it is also written on the back of packets of junk food sold in the markets.
But how much amount of them we should eat and how much can harm our health, it is not written anywhere. Eating too much salt, sugar, or fat in excess will increase your risk of obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease.
According to the requirement of nutritional elements in our body, RDA i.e. Recommended Dietary Allowance is decided. According to RDA, a healthy person has been prescribed 5 grams of salt, 60 grams of fat, 2.2 grams of trans fat and 300 grams of carbohydrate per day. This quantity is taken according to the requirement of 2000 calories daily for a healthy person.
Along with this, CSE has demanded the government to impose red warning labels on junk food and fast food. They say that there is a green and red mark on the outside of any food packet, which indicates that the food is vegetarian or non-vegetarian. In the same way, every junk food and fast food packet must have a red warning label which contains more salt or fat than the prescribed quantity.
Warning levels are imposed on the junk food of these big companies in many countries across the world. So that people can know that what they are eating can harm their health. CSE director general Sunita Narayan said that most big companies do not want their packets to have such a red warning label.
Because all companies' junk food has been found to have more salt and fat than the prescribed quantity. Therefore, these companies put pressure on the government that such a law should not come. But we want such warning labels to come to junk food and fast food as soon as possible.
