Nirbhaya Case: 3 Convicts Approach International Court of Justice (ICJ)

Nirbhaya case got a new twist on Monday. 3 rapists Pawan, Akshay and Vinay have reached the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to stop the hanging process. These convicts are to be hanged in Tihar at 5:30 in the morning of 20 March. The legal options of the four misdemeanors of the Nirbhaya case are over.

The Supreme Court will hear the appeal of the Ministry of Home Affairs on March 23 in which Nirbhaya convicts were separately hanged. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Center on Thursday, told the court - the culprits have made fun of the system.

During the hearing on 15 February on this matter, the Supreme Court had said that pending the Center plea to hang the accused separately, the trial court will not have any effect on the issuance of a new death warrant for hanging.

A bench of Justices R Banumathi, Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice AS Bopanna had said "We want to make it clear that pending such petitions cannot be construed as an obstacle in the decision of the trial court." The court can take a decision on it at its discretion. "
