Evolution of a cricket bat from 1624 to 2020


Cricket bat defines as a specialized equipment used by the cricketers to hit a ball. Cricket bat has a length about 38 inches and width about 4.25 inches. Cricket bat mainly made by traditional willow woods, In 1979 a law was established according to this law, cricket bats have to be made with wood. Cricket bat contains two main parts first of a long handle which is attached with a flat-fronted willow wood blade.

The current design of bat was invented in the 1880s by charles richardson. The shape of a cricket bat was not the same as it's now. Before the 18th-century cricket bat has a shape similar to a hockey stick.
A Brief History of A Cricket Bat
In 1624, this was the first time when the term cricket bat was used. During this time cricket bat has a shape very much like a hockey stick, and bowler used to bowl underarm. In 1770's, a new law was established which allowed the length bowling, and a cricket bat should be a maximum width of 4.25". In the 1830s, cricket bat makers started to use "splice" handles into bat. In the 1835's, the length of a cricket bat was restricted to 38', which is still the same. In the 1840's for the first time "spring" being inserted into handles of a cricket bat, later it changes to an Indian rubber. In the 1853's for the first time cricket bat makers started to use "cane" for handle. In 1864's a new law allows the "overarm bowling:, so the bat's blade becomes more refine shape and lighter. In 1870's the shape of the modern cricket bat was evolved.
