Vidya Balan was born into an Iyer family in Puthur Poothankurissi in Palakkad district. She completed her schooling at St. Anthony's Girls' High School, Chembur, Mumbai. He then graduated from St. Xavier's College with a degree in Sociology. She also won the 2011 National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in The Dirty Picture. Vidya Balan also received the Padma Shri award in 2014.

Vidya Balan started her artistic career by acting in music videos and musicals. Vidya's acting career began in 1995 with the television series Hum Punch. Vidya made her film debut in 2003 in the Bengali film Bhalo Deko. Parineeta is Vidya Balan's first Hindi film. Vidya Balan won the Filmfare Best Newcomer Award for this film.
