Hereditary
It was one of most unsettling movies I have ever watched, well atleast for the first half. But this first half of movie was so good, it is enough to garner it plethora of accolades. It is not just horror, but tangible pain it makes you feel. It goes the distance which most of movies don’t go, and then it goes an extra mile. To be honest I was left asking myself question after watching it’s first half, why? Why would someone want to portray the deep pain and melancholy it had, the psycological torure it creates, what’s the purpose. Horror is known for it’s thrill for it’s adrenaline rush, Heriditary on the other hand leaves you depressed and devoid of hope. It has some amazing acting and an absolutely outstanding direction, but the core of movie leaves me questioning …. why?
Get Out
I loved get out, and I am going to watch it multiple times. This movie was something, which redefines it’s genre. More than horror I will consider it a psychological thriller. It was really refreshing and powerful. It is one of those movies whose taste lingers on your tongue for days, and you don’t want to watch anything else, just to hold it little bit longer.
Don’t Breathe
Look at the expressions above, that’s how you are going to stay till this movie continues. A gem of it’s kind and an amazing!!amzing thriller!! Oh but we were talking about Horror, well, doesn’t the line diminish a lot of times. This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat and your heart will keep on pounding like a drum . It is intense and beautiful in a way I can’t explain in words. It will make you gasp for air and make you feel under oxygenated at times . And at many times it will make you feel a feeling which is why I am adding it in this list ….fear!!
It Follows
Okay so now I have reached the core genre, It Follows is pure horror. And not just any other horror movie, it will make you cringe, I mean really cringe. It doesn’t “follow” (pun intended) normal trajactory of horror movies, but “it follows” your psyce alright. It creates an atmosphere of fear and is genuinely scary. Without much of special effects or high budget, this movie playes with your mind. And succeeds in pushing all the right buttons. It is a fantastic horror movie.
Cabin in the woods
This movie is one of my long time favorites. It’s first half shows you how normally cliched horror movies are made. Some hot scenese, a stud, a geek etc. etc. a typical recipe which you throw in and stirr for one hour and thirty minutes and bam!! You got a horror movie.
But then in the second half, it shows you how it should be done rather. A brilliant movie and iconoclastic in a lot of ways. It is a rollercoster ride from beginning to oops sorry from second half to last, and a lot of giggles and cliches in first half .
