Some important updates about IUC on Jio.
Each telecommunication has to pay a certain fees for making calls to other telecommunications. In 2017, TRAI made some changes to IUC. It reduced the charge from 14 paise to 6 paise per minute. This change was effected in October 2017. It will last till December 31, 2019.
TRAI is now ready to make some adjustment with a new consultation
paper to reconsider the proposed timeline. It may extend it further after the reconsideration.
So far, the Jio's interconnect charges is Rs.13,500 crore. If TRAI extends IUC, Jio is forced to move the charges to consumers which will surely be a bad news for the Jio users. However, the telco has made the other arrangements to compensate the charges through free data and additional talk-time.
The introduction of IUC recharge cards with additional talk-time and free data will compensate the 6 paise charge. IUC top-up voucher cards are available at Rs 10 which offer 124 IUC minutes and 1GB of free data. This is applicable for Post-paid users also. They will be charged 6
paise per minute for outgoing calls. But it will be squarely compensated with free data.
Outgoing calls will only be charged 6
paise per minute. The below mentioned calls still remain free for Jio users -Jio to Jio, incoming calls, Jio to landline, and WhatsApp and FaceTime calls. The current data plans for Jio users will not undergo any change.
