Carlson grew up in a Minneapolis suburb and attended the Academy of Holy Angels. After high school, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting and modeling. She began her career as a model, appearing in various commercials and print ads.
In 2001, Carlson made her acting debut with a guest role in the television series "Profiler." She then appeared in several other TV shows, including "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "Everwood."
